The Capital London Skyline

Capital Projects

Morden Mount Primary School, London

This large school has experienced many leaks over the years but 6 roofs continually caused disruption to the school. At the request of the school and Greenwich Borough council, Capital Roofing was asked to carry out a full survey of the roofs in question and this we did.

Whilst carrying out the inspection we identified some areas that required extensive alterations and some asbestos removal to skylights and water tank glass enclosures on two of the roofs. The project was valued at £240,000 and was over 1600²m of which 70% was tapered insulation

The school head mistress was very keen to use as many Eco friendly products as possible. With this in mind we asked Icopal to visit site to provide the insulated warm roof waterproofing system comprising of existing asphalt surface as the vapour barrier Xtra Seal QD Bitumen Primer, Profiles Vapour Vent XL Flat 140mm or tapered insulation as required Vent XL, and the additional Eco finish product unique to Icopal The Noxite Mineral Cap Sheet, Profiles Sand XL and Noxite to upstands.

On completion of the asbestos removal to some of the skylights and vertical glass water tank enclosures we replaced 21no skylights using Whitesales skylights, raising kerb details etc.

The original glass panels went down to the flat roof covering leaving no upstand. The glass served no lighting purpose and would need to be removed anyway to get an upstand. Introducing insulation meant the original upstand would not be sufficient. Our recommendation was to completely remove the glass, board over and supply and fix white PVC cladding making everything maintenance free. We introduced new guttering where required.

Icopal's cold applied liquid elastaflex coating system had to be used adjacent to the existing hall windows due to the type of vertical panels used originally. This created a great waterproof seal between the felt system and the panels as felt could not be used.
